Frank Beanland

Biography

1936, Born Bridlington, Yorkshire and studied at Slade School of Fine Art 1959-61, Hull College of Art 1952-57. He lived in Cornwall 1962-4 and moved to East Anglia 1966. He won a Boise Scholarship and studied in Stockholm 1962, lectured at Swansea College of Art 1964-5, resident at Michael Karolyi Memorial Foundation Venice 1965-6, artist-in-residence, Centre Artistique de Rencontres Internationales, Nice 1973. Frank Beanland exhibited under the banner of the Porthleven Group from 1962 to 1964. He then embarked on an impressive exhibiting career, and received many commissions for screens and printed textiles for hospitals, churches and private homes. Recently, he has discovered what he regards as a new and exciting way of making pictures - the use of acrylics on newspaper. He is revelling in the speed at which he can set down his ideas and in the freedom to experiment that no-cost paper encourages.
